Sascha Brenk: Auf der einen Seite muss eine App was können, sie muss einfach zu bedienen sein. Und du brauchst auch das Fünkchen Glück dazu. Wie schnell wirst du in irgendwelche Blogs aufgenommen. Das macht unglaublich viel aus. Daher ist es schwer abzuschätzen, welche App ein Hammer wird und welche nicht.

Holger Frank: Ja, da hast du sehr wenig Einfluss drauf. Du hast zwar einen gewissen Einfluss drauf, aber es ist eben nicht wirklich planbar. Die ganzen Großen, die so abgezockt haben – von denen hat nie jemand mit dem Erfolg gerechnet. Die haben auch immer gut gebraucht, bis es wirklich zieht.

Frage: “Wo seht ihr die größten Unterschiede zwischen Deutschland, Europa und USA – vom Nutzerverhalten und der Art der Apps?”

Sascha Brenk: Es ist schwer dazu etwas zu sagen, aber wir haben ja im AppZapp die App Store Charts – wir haben das jetzt für iPhone, iPod und iPad drinnen. Wenn du oben auf die Flagge klickst, dann kannst du das Land, beispielsweise Frankreich, auswählen. Dann erhältst du die Top 400 in Frankreich und kannst den Unterschied zu den Deutschen sehen. Aber ich würde sagen, die ersten 20 sind sich sehr ähnlich.

Holger Frank: Das sind die internationalen Player. Aber es gibt natürlich ab und zu Ausreißer darin. Die meisten  aber sind relativ unique.

Sascha Brenk: Oder sind relativ speziell. In Frankreich habe ich beispielsweise welche gesehen, die habe ich vorher noch nie gesehen. Da kenne ich ein paar Entwickler, wo ich weiß, dass sie beispielsweise nur für die Schweiz entwickeln.

Holger Frank: Wenn du im Bereich Tools arbeitest oder bei Dienstleistungen, dann hast du eben nur die Datenbasis deiner Region, wie beispielsweise die erste App, die die Bahnauskunft gemacht haben. Das sind so typische Probleme, die werden erst einmal lokal und regional gelöst. Das sind sehr punktuelle Geschichten, die nur für eine Region oder ein Land entwickelt werden. Das ist natürlich auch so, weil du dich als Entwickler in deinem Land auskennst. In anderen Ländern aber kennst du dich nicht aus, kommst an die Daten auch schwerer ran. Da hast du sozusagen eine Einstiegshürde in einem anderen Land. Deshalb gibt es auch viele regionale Geschichten, was ja auch schön ist.

Sascha Brenk: Du hast das Problem überall, wo du verschiedene Produkte hast. In dem einen Land sind die ganz stark und in dem anderen kennt sie niemand Zum Beispiel Scout-Schulranzen kennt in der Schweiz keiner. In Deutschland ist der Hase Felix für Schulranzen stellvertretend. Das gilt für viele Marken oder Produkte. Wenn du also in die Top 10 der Schweiz schaust, da ist beispielsweise der Swiss-Index enthalten. Du kannst in der Schweiz das Nummernschild eines Autos eingeben und kannst dir den Halter ermitteln lassen. Die haben eine App gebaut dazu. Und das geht natürlich nur in der Schweiz. Auch lizenzrechtliche Geschichten muss man mit berücksichtigen.

Ich glaube auch, dass die Apps, die man in einem Land besonders häufig benutzt auch immer in den Top 50 drinnen sind. Da hast du einen relativ breiten Cap drinnen bei den Apps. Wohingegen die Top 10 sich relativ ähnlich sind. Und dann fangen ab der Top 10 bis in die Top 100 die speziellen Apps für das jeweilige Land an in den Charts.

Ich glaube deshalb, eine generelle Aussage zu machen ist schwer. Auch wenn Spiele oft ein Renner sind.

Holger Frank: Die Spiele werden meist von den zwei bis drei großen Schmieden gemacht und die anderen sind meistens kleine Glückstreffer, die halt groß geworden sind. Wie beispielsweise Angry Birds, Doodle Jump, Tiny Wings.

Sascha Brenk: Aber du hast die Möglichkeit wenigstens, dich selbst zu vermarkten.

Holger Frank: Ja, aber der US-Markt ist ähnlich wie der UK-Markt nochmal eine eigene Welt für sich. Wobei der US-Markt durch seine Größe besticht.

Sascha Brenk: Gut, Holger, aber du kannst ja ein Lied davon singen. Wenn du von Apple gefeatured wirst, dann bringt das nochmal ganz andere Zahlen. Wenn du in die Top-Listen von Apple reinkommst, dann hast du nochmal deutlich mehr Chancen. Neu und beachtenswert ist so eine Kategorie.

Holger Frank: Es gibt mittlerweile nochmal pro Kategorie ein “Neu und beachtenswert”.

Sascha Brenk: Aber das bringt ja rein gar nichts. Aber wenn du auf dem iPhone in iTunes in der Kategorie drinnen bist, dann hast du den Jackpot. Holger du warst ja unter “Highlights” ganz oben drinnen. Was hat das denn gebracht?

Holger Frank: Wir waren da drinnen, nachdem wir schon gut waren. In Deutschland waren wir schon zwei Tage nach dem Start auf Platz zwei. In den anderen Ländern zogen wir dadurch von 0 auf Platz 1 bis 5. Das ergibt mehr Sichtbarkeit. Kostenlos ist allerdings schwieriger, kostenpflichtig ist deutlich einfacher.

Sascha Brenk: Ja, du bleibst relativ lange oben und kommst auch relativ einfach nach oben. Das ist bei kostenlosen Apps nicht der Fall.

Holger Frank: Hängt aber auch vom Thema ab.
